Summary: A Christmas drink or two.

Buffy added vodka to the mix.  She had blended two tubs of blackberries in her food processor and had strained the result. The lemonade, raspberry cranberry juice and ice were already floating in the mix. The vodka was the stinger in the drink.

“There!” she declared, happy with her efforts. The drink was a lovely hue, dark red. Dipping a finger in the liquid, she brought it to her mouth and sucked.

“Mmm,” she said, licking her lips.

“What do you call it?”

“Blackberry heaven,” she said, glancing over to where Angel was standing.

The vampire was mixing up his own brew. Strawberries stained the liquid blood red. A bottle of grenadine stood beside the blender.

He stirred his mix. “By the look on your face, you like it.”

“I do. Would you like a taste?” Dipping her finger back into the bowl, she offered the digit to him.

He obliged by licking her finger dry.

Smacking his lips, he gave his opinion. “My taste buds don’t do it justice.”

“That’s so unfair!”

“The things vampires eat? I think it’s a kindness.”

She wrinkled her nose at the thought. “Ew!”

“Why are we doing this?” he asked not for the first time.

“It’s Christmas.”

“I mean, why two sets of drinks?” Angel’s brew had no alcohol.

“Some of us can’t handle alcohol that well.” Buffy inwardly shuddered at a memory she’d rather not have. Beer was bad.  “Xander doesn’t like it. His parents drink,” she offered.

Angel schooled his features. “Xander.”

Buffy wasn’t fooled. Angel never got along with Xander, and her old school friend made it plain enough that he had no love for Angel.

Buffy decided to change the subject. She poured her mix into a waiting glass jug.  “Did you notice the colour? Red?” She tapped the glass. “It’s so you can drink blood and nobody will notice it’s not a cocktail.”

Buffy’s consideration never failed to warm his heart.

“I love you.”

Buffy’s huge smile was his reward.

Angel poured his own mix into a frosted-glass bowl. The outline of holly and its berries were etched into the bowl’s sides.  Angel repressed his feelings on the matter.

Buffy sprinkled mint leaves over the top of each mix.

“The recipe doesn’t call for mint.”

“It doesn’t?” she asked far too innocently. “I like it. It’s pretty.”

And it was. Angel kissed her nose.

“I’ll clean up. You go get ready. You only have an hour.”

Buffy snapped her tea towel at him and scampered away, laughing.

“Don’t forget to put the drinks in the refrigerator,” were the last words he heard as she disappeared into the bathroom.

Shaking his head, smiling, he did as he was told.

Merry Christmas.
